S18-02 Inferring molecular networks
نویسنده
چکیده
The ability to maintain a proportionate body plan in individuals of different sizes is essential for proper development. Despite wide interest, little is known about the mechanisms underlying scaling with size. I will discuss our efforts to reveal the molecular basis for scaling in different systems. A general ‘‘Expansion– Repression’’ feedback topology will be presented, which ensures scaling for a wide range of parameters and sizes through an effective implementation of an integral-feedback controller. Integralfeedback presents a key concept in engineering, and is likely to be instrumental also for maintaining biological homeostasis.

Prediction of user's trustworthiness in web-based social networks via text mining
In Social networks, users need a proper estimation of trust in others to be able to initialize reliable relationships. Some trust evaluation mechanisms have been offered, which use direct ratings to calculate or propagate trust values. However, in some web-based social networks where users only have binary relationships, there is no direct rating available. Therefore, a new method is required t...
متن کاملInferring cellular networks using probabilistic graphical models.
High-throughput genome-wide molecular assays, which probe cellular networks from different perspectives, have become central to molecular biology. Probabilistic graphical models are useful for extracting meaningful biological insights from the resulting data sets. These models provide a concise representation of complex cellular networks by composing simpler submodels. Procedures based on well-...
متن کاملIdentification of the SPLUNC1 ENaC-inhibitory domain yields novel strategies to treat sodium hyperabsorption in cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cultures.
The epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) is responsible for Na(+) and fluid absorption across colon, kidney, and airway epithelia. Short palate lung and nasal epithelial clone 1 (SPLUNC1) is a secreted, innate defense protein and an autocrine inhibitor of ENaC that is highly expressed in airway epithelia. While SPLUNC1 has a bactericidal permeability-increasing protein (BPI)-type structure, its NH2...
متن کاملAnalysis of the puromycin binding site in the 70 S ribosome of Escherichia coli at the peptide level.
Photoinduced cross-linking of Escherichia coli 70 S ribosomes with [3H]puromycin has led to the labeling of ribosomal proteins S7, S14, S18, L18, and L29. Proteolytic fragmentation of these proteins and separation of the peptide mixtures by C18 reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography resulted in six puromycin-labeled peptides which were applied to sequence analysis. The following ...
